I would love to replace MS' audio-icon in the tray with a TS-Solution that would
  • on hover display the current audio-output device
  • on click enable me to active a different device through selection from a subset of all devices (or perhaps toggle between two devices). Alternatively, I would also be happy if I could create a custom-submenu that would trigger some batch-files that I have to activate devices.
Reason: many times during the day I need to toggle between speakers and headset and it would be neat if I could make that process easier and fool-proof (accidentally clicking unwanted device).

DisplayFusion has an Audio Devices sub-menu in its tray menu that might help out here. You could also download this scripted function: https://www.displayfusion.com/ScriptedFunctions/View/?ID=4c7866e7-e984-4176-b89c-e2a41cd805b7

When you run it via hotkey, it will prompt you to select a new audio device.

Hope that helps!

Thank you - that's 99.6%! ;-)

The icing on the cake would be if instead of a dropdown, I could simply click one of two buttons (if the list only has 2 items). I hope my rusty and VERY limited C-Knowledge will help to modify that script accordingly.

I succeeded to write my little switcher-script. Have uploaded it to share...
