After my initial post about starting a private beta for DisplayFusion v2.3 I received an overwhelming response. I had to start turning people away to keep the number of testers to a manageable size. However, I ended up with a very diverse test group - which is exactly what I was looking for. There are people using Windows XP, Vista (x86 and x64), Server 2003 and Server 2008. Some people have Windows Themes enabled, some don't. Most are running English operating systems, but there are a few that are running localized copies of DisplayFusion. Testing is going extremely well, so I thought I would just highlight some of the exciting things coming in DisplayFusion v2.3:
This has turned out to be a substantial new release. With the numerous bug-fixes and tons of new functionality, this is shaping up to be one of the biggest DisplayFusion releases ever.
With these new changes, and after much deliberation, I have decided to adjust DisplayFusion's pricing. Effective January 1, 2009 DisplayFusion's price will be changing to $20 (CAD). I believe this new price is still a fair representation of what DisplayFusion is worth, especially taking into account the additional functionality version 2.3 will bring. If you are interested in how much this will cost in your local currency I have done the calculation for a few of the major currencies here:
Please keep in mind that the exchange rate for each of these currencies will fluctuate. I am announcing this price change 1 month in advance so that people currently evaluating DisplayFusion Pro will still have time to finish their trial and purchase a Pro license at the current price. Also, effective immediately, I have introduced volume discounts on the purchase page. This is how the discounts work:
If you want to use DisplayFusion Pro on more than one computer, this is an excellent way to purchase multiple licenses and save some money at the same time. As always, I would love to hear any feedback you have about any of these changes, or anything in general. You can use the contact page, or you can find me on Twitter. Thank you for your continued support, and I look forward to hearing from you.
I would like to send out a huge thanks to Marko for translating DisplayFusion v2.2.1 into French. If you are interested in using DisplayFusion with a French interface just head over to the DisplayFusion Languages page and download the French language file. For more information on how to install the language file, look at the "How do I use these language files" section on DisplayFusion Languages page.
After many months of development I am ready to start talking about one of the biggest new features planned for DisplayFusion v2.3: Multi-Monitor Taskbar Support. This is the most requested feature, and also the most difficult to create, so it has taken some time to get to this stage. I am officially ready to start beta testing and I'm looking for people who would like to give this feature a try. This feature will be a Pro only feature, so this beta will only be available to people with DisplayFusion Pro licenses.
Here is what the multi-monitor taskbar looks like in Windows XP with the Blue theme. The Windows Taskbar is on the left and the DisplayFusion Taskbar is on the right. As you can see, all of the taskbar windows are being shown on both taskbars.
In the second screenshot you can see DisplayFusion is only showing the windows that are on each screen in the DisplayFusion Taskbar. There are still a number of options that need to be finalized, but I want to start testing now to get as much feedback as I can from other people's desktop configurations. If you are interested in trying this out please contact me and I'll send you the download link.
Update: When you contact me please send the email address you used to register DisplayFusion, or your DisplayFusion Pro license key so I can verify your Pro status. Thanks!
I am very happy to announce the release of FileSeek v1.6. This new version adds some much requested new functionality, and cleans up a few small issues. Here are a few things that have been added in this release:
Check out the full change log for more details on these changes. Also changed in this release is the addition of an advertisement in the Settings window for one of my other applications, DisplayFusion. This is just a hard-coded image, and will never, ever connect to the internet to download new ads. This isn't some sleazy spyware stuff, this is just a link to one of my applications. This is the first application that I have tried this with, and I would be very interested to hear any feedback on this in the FileSeek Support Forum, or just contact me directly.
A big thanks to everyone who helped with this release. Thanks everyone!
I am happy to announce the release of DisplayFusion v2.2.1. This new release is mostly a bug-fix release, and doesn't add any new features. Here are some of the things addressed in this release:
If you would like to see the full list of changes, head over to the DisplayFusion change log. I would encourage everyone to update as soon as they can. If you are using DisplayFusion Pro then you should be prompted to upgrade and DisplayFusion will take care of downloading and installing this update. For everyone using the free version you will be notified of the new version but you will need to download and install the update manually from the DisplayFusion website.
As always, if you encounter any issues please be sure to check out the DisplayFusion Online Support page or you can contact me directly. Thanks everyone!
I was very pleased to discover that Computer Shopper, a large UK magazine, did a mini-review of DisplayFusion in this month's issue. They gave DisplayFusion 5 out 5 stars, which is always nice to see. On a side note, I'm curious to find out if any non-English publications will be including DisplayFusion now that it supports other languages. If anyone ever comes across any magazine articles about DisplayFusion, please let me know. I'll be more than happy to send a free DisplayFusion Pro license your way. You can find out more information about this offer here. Thanks everyone!
I would like to send out a huge thanks to Ghislain Bossuyt for translating DisplayFusion v2.2 into Dutch. If you are interested in using DisplayFusion with a Dutch interface then head over to the DisplayFusion Languages page and download the Dutch language file. For more information on how to install the language file, look at the "How do I use these language files" section on DisplayFusion Languages page.
I am very happy to announce the release of DisplayFusion v2.2. This release has been the result of many, many months of beta testing and fine tuning. There are a pile of new features and bug fixes, but the single biggest change is the addition of multiple language support. This means that you can now use DisplayFusion in your own native language. I have provided 3 language files: English, German and Spanish, but you are free to create your own. DisplayFusion uses an open text-based format and as a result it's very easy to create your own translation. Visit the DisplayFusion Languages page to find out more.
Here are some of the major changes:
I would encourage anyone running an older version to update today to take advantage of the improvements and bug fixes. For the complete list of changes please check out the DisplayFusion Change Log.
I would like to send out a huge thanks to the people that helped with the German and Spanish translations. This release wouldn't have been possible without the tireless contributions from these 4 people:
Thanks guys!
I don't know what I was thinking when I started giving away 2 week DisplayFusion Pro trial licenses, but that's just crazy. 2 weeks just isn't long enough to get a good feel for everything DisplayFusion Pro has to offer. So, starting today all DisplayFusion Pro trial licenses will last for a full month. What will DisplayFusion Pro give you? You get customizable hotkeys, random wallpaper changing and more. Check out the version comparison for all the details. Head over to the DisplayFusion Trial License page to get your full month of DisplayFusion Pro started today!
I had the recent pleasure to give an interview to an editor from MacLife.com. I must confess, I have never had an interview about any of my software, but it was a wonderful experience. The article is titled Industries Sown from the Seeds of Apple and it talks about the different industries that Apple has helped to build. Here are a few excerpts from the article, referencing things I discussed in the interview.
Jon Tackabury, who created iTunes Sync—software that allows non-iPod MP3 players to synchronize with iTunes—said that only the tech-savvy knew what MP3 players were before the advent of the iPod. He believes the iPod made MP3 players cool enough to pique the interest of the general public.
And then there's the cost. Tackabury said, "The iPod has a huge price premium. Even the nano is still pretty expensive considering the storage you get."
As long as people crave on-the-go tunes and don't care to shell out the price of an iPod or crave a feature Apple has not yet seen fit to add, the rest of the MP3 market will be there to sop up the iPod's run-offs. For example, Tackabury owns an iPod, but he purchased the less-expensive Sansa ($30) for his children.
I never know what to say when people are asking questions. Hopefully I didn't come across as too dorky, but I'm sure I did.
